Your Questions, Answered

  • I create drawings of singular features - eyes, noses, and occasionally paw prints. These are quiet studies rather than full portraits, intended to capture recognition and familiarity. Most of my work is created in remembrance of animal companions who have crossed to the other side of life, though commissions for living animals are also welcome.

  • Yes. I work from a small number of client provided reference photos of the specific feature being drawn.

  • Each drawing is unique artwork created by hand. While I work from reference photos, the drawing is an interpretation of the animal’s features and spirit - not an exact photocopy. Every line, shadow, and detail is crafted individually to capture recognition and presence rather than replicate the image perfectly.

  • No - the process is the same. Memorial drawings are approached as work about recognition - what remains known, familiar, and felt - not about loss. Some people choose to share stories or memories; others prefer quiet. There is no expectation either way.

  • A deposit is required before I begin your commission. This ensures your piece is reserved in my schedule and confirms your commitment. Once the drawing is completed, a final invoice will be sent for the remaining balance, which includes the agreed price plus shipping costs. Payment links will be sent to you using the Stripe platform.

  • Deposits are non-refundable one the drawing process has begun, as they cover scheduling and initial work. If a commission is canceled before work begins, the deposit may be returned or partially retained, depending on timing - this will be discussed individually.

  • Commissions generally range from $100-$250 CAD, depending on size, complexity, and style. This covers the artwork itself, shipping is added to the final invoice.

  • Completion times vary. Because I work slowly and deliberately, I keep commissions limited. Timelines depend on current capacity and the nature of the piece. I do not rush work, and I do not offer guaranteed completion dates - but you will be notified when the drawing is complete.

  • No. I accept a small number of commissions at a time and may decline requests that do not align with my process or capacity. This ensures each drawing receives the care and attention it deserves.

  • Each drawing is completed on 9” x 12” paper. The size of the actual featured drawing is determined by your animal companion guiding me. Drawings will be at least 2” x 2”, but some animal companions have big presence in a small body and need that recognized. The full sheet will be sent so you can trim it to suit a frame of your choice.

  • Shipping is calculated based on your location. All drawings are carefully packaged to protect the work in transit. Shipping costs are added on top of the commission price and confirmed before shipping. International orders may take longer and incur additional customs or fees.

  • I work primarily in graphite on heavyweight archival-quality paper. Some pieces include a subtle colour pop, usually in the iris, applied over graphite. More detailed information about materials, lightfastness, and care instructions can be found on the Materials page.

  • Drawings should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from high humidity. Framing behind glass is recommended to protect the surface. Care instructions are provided with each piece.

  • Because of the nature of this work, revisions are not part of the process. Each drawing is completed when your animal companion guides me that it feels finished.
